Tips for applying for benefits

COVID-19’s impact on unemployment rates has led to more Texans filing for benefits. Providing incomplete or wrong information can cause a benefits application to be delayed or even denied. To help people more effectively apply and ensure accurate applications, the OIG created an information sheet of simple tips.

The information is aimed at people applying for Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). Applicants will learn how and where to apply, along with requirements for doing so. The new material also outlines the various misuses of benefits, to help Texans avoid the consequences of benefits fraud.

The information is available in both English and Spanish on the OIG’s website.
